Corrected Age Calculation Guidelines for Preterm Infants

Comprehensive guide for pediatricians and early intervention specialists on calculating adjusted chronological age for infants born prior to 37 weeks gestation.

Why Corrected Age Matters in Early Intervention

For infants born prematurely (before 37 weeks gestation), developmental milestones and standardized assessment scores (such as the Bayley-IV) are evaluated using corrected age (or adjusted age) until 24 months of age.

The Calculation Formula

Corrected Age = Chronological Age in weeks (or days) minus the number of weeks born prematurely (40 weeks minus gestational age at birth).
